چکیده

Abstract A fundamental quantity in the calculation of rain attenuation statistics is the specific attenuation (attenuation per unit distance). The power-law form of rain specific attenuation is very convenient and is commonly used. It is expressed as α R k ⋅ , where k and α are the power-law parameters, and R is the rain rate in mm/h. Limited number of power-law parameters were available in the technical literature for certain raindrop size distributions. Some of these parameters had reservations for rain-rate ranges. New power-law parameters for four different (gamma, lognormal, Laws and Parsons, and Marshall and Palmer) raindrop size distributions are made. For

Scintillations of Ku Band Satellite Signal Related to Rain Attenuation at a Tropical Location

Scintillations of a Ku-band satellite signal are observed in association with rain attenuation at Kolkata, India. The wavelet analysis of signal fluctuations, due to simultaneous occurrence of scintillations and attenuation, reveals the relative impact of different scales of refractivity structures on the signal at different instants of time. A positive relationship exists between the peaks in ...

Propagation studies at Ku-band over an earth-space path at Kolkata

Propagation measurements at Ku-band over an earth-space path have been carried out at Kolkata (22°34′ N, 88°29′ E) by receiving a signal at 11.172 GHz from the satellite NSS-6 (geostationary at 95°E). The amplitudes of the co-polar signal and the cross-polar component have been monitored along with the measurements of rain rate and drop size distribution by an optical raingauge and a Joss-type ...

Improving Rain Attenuation Estimation: Mod- Elling of Effective Path Length Using Ku- Band Measurements at a Tropical Location

Rain attenuation is an important aspect of signal propagation above 10GHz frequency. The attenuation time series generation from point rain rate measurement is crucial due to unavailability of actual signal measurements. In this paper, a simple and realistic approach has been demonstrated for better estimation of rain attenuation using Ku-band signal propagation data and ground rain rate measur...

Quantification of uncertainties in attenuation correction for single-polarization weather radars at C- and X-band

At Cor X-band wavelengths, the importance of attenuation affecting the radar signal in rain has been recognized for a long time. Because of the non-sphericity of rain drops, backscaterring and propagation of electromagnetic waves depend on their polarization state. As most operational weather radars in Europe are single-polarization C-band systems, the quantification of the influence of uncerta...

Rain attenuation prediction during rain events in different climatic regions

A rain attenuation prediction method has been applied to different climatic regions to test the validity of the model. The significant difference in rain rate and attenuation statistics for the tropical and temperate region needs to be considered in developing channel model to predict time series of rain attenuation for earth space communication links. Model parameters obtained for a tropical l...
